The Agricultural Solar installation does not only provide massive financial savings on electricity, but also as a result of a more stable electricity supply amidst South Africa’s current Eskom power supply crisis.
The Initial Challenge – unsustainable electricity supply cost
Initially when MICASA took on the project the main challenge faced by the Steynmond Farm in Kakemas in the Northern Cape was that its total electricity cost was simply too high for the farm to survive into the future.
The farm was using a total of 310 000 kWh per year with an average 143 kVa peak per month. This translated into an astounding, total power usage cost per year of R615 000 (excl. VAT).
The Solution – MICASA Agricultural Solar PV installation
In a massive Agricultural Solar PV project titled “Project Denmyd”, MICASA installed a total of 448 Solar PV panels (330 Wp , 147.84 kWp), 5 Inverters (27.6 kW 3 phase) over a period of just 12 days at a total project cost of R1 840 000 (excl. VAT)
The Results – Savings and a Secure Future
On completion of the Agricultural Solar PV project the farm began to see immediate savings on the cost of its electricity supply which translated eventually to incredible savings over the year and the added bonus of a sustainable, reliable, constant supply of electricity.
The electricity usage cost after the Agricultural Solar PV project completion, for the 14 Pumps (30, 30, 37, 15 & 10*1.2 kW) and 3 buildings comprising a large home, warehouse and pump room) has reduced drastically to R289 087 (excl. vat) per year for 33 236 kWh, (an average 109 kVa peak per month)
